As some of you may know, I have been suffering from a rapid heart rate (it has been up to 160bmp) along with chest pains and dizziness for the past 11 months.
It has been such a long road to getting this figured out and I’m still not there. A few months ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia relating to a few of my other symptoms (tiredness, aching joints/muscles, memory issues etc) but the rheumatologist couldn’t account for the heart rate and dizziness – yay
But it seems as though I am almost at the finish line with it! Last month I went to see a cardiologist who upon looking through my records and ECGs has pretty much said it is POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrom) – I will do another blog post later detailing what exactly it is as before I became ill I had never heard of it.
Essentially before this diagnosis can be confirmed I need to wear a 24 HR monitor to rule out any other possible issues with my heart. As long as it comes back clear, the diagnosis of POTS will be made. I am having the tape done at the start of April – I am so close to the end of all the not knowing, it is weird feeling excited to get diagnosed with something. To have a name and an explanation for it all.
